Bored and musing over such things as what people see as morally right or not and how these views change as they grow older.
Ive noticed morals can change pretty easily, I am a good example.
A few years ago, I used to refuse and I mean utterly refused to purchase any skin of an animal that was hunted. Then later, as my interest in taxidermy grew I started to collect pelts from fur farms (Yes I support them, but I wont go into a debate about that.) And recently I have purchased a few that have been hunted specifically for taxidermy reasons. While I am still not entirely comfortable with myself for doing this, I have my reasons.
My reasoning is pretty simple. I am/wish to be a proper taxidermist, always have. I wish it to become more than a hobby, but sadly to acquire the species I wish to work on, they just dont exist in my country. Thus I have to find other means to collect them. I am a little of a opportunist, I see things pretty black and white, and in my mind if something is already dead, it is and I can do nothing to help it in that respect.
I have a pretty perfect dream one day, where I will be able to work for my local zoos and museum and be able to finally work on exotics that have only died of natural causes.
But thats a dream that may take a long time, or not come at all ;D
So I guess in the end, my musing is, what are morals to us? Are they things that change and mutate as we grow older, or are exposed to new ideas?
The thing that actually got me pondering about this, is the fact that someone I know offered for me to go hunting with them.
I declined, but I was shocked that a small part of me wanted to go. And I found it interesting to sit back and muse over what I perceived as wrong and right over the years, and realize just how much my views of such topics have changed.
Do I think my morals have become evil? Not really. I still respect the animals I work on highly, and I do not see them as collectables, toys or trophies like allot of people on here I have seen (one of the reasons I have not posted anything I own on here for a while.) But they are sure are different from the morals that the child I was once had. I wonder what she would think of me now ;D haha.
Also, I am considering making a new dev account for my taxidermy work as cunningfox suggested. I as a rule have not posted anything for a few years, but I hardly care what the nay Sayers say anymore, so perhaps its time to show my work? It would only be mounts I have personally mounted myself however. I have no interest in
Anyhooo, thats my rambling over. Speaking of taxidermy, I have a Coyote whos face needs some pinning, so whoo!
